Optical – Electronic System Sphere – 02
Description
Sphere – 02 is a deck – mounted system intended to provide round – the – clock and all – weather observation of shore, above – water and air space, detect objects and track them automatically.
System Components
- Turret
- Control Panel
- Interface Unit
- Display
Sphere – 02 is a modular system and it can be supplied in various modifications for particular purposes specified by the customer and can be equipped with gyrostabilized TV cameras with different fields of view, infrared imaging camera, laser range finder and infrared illuminator. The gyrostabilization protects the cameras and laser range finder from rolling motion, vibration and ship movement thus providing high definition images and precise target coordinate determination.
Optical – Electronic Module Sphere – 02
Turret Basic Specifications
- Maximum turning rate of the sight line – 60 angular degrees/sec; Accurate stabilization and pointing of the sight angle towards the object – not worse than 1 angular minute.
- RMS error of angle coordinate measuring – no more than 1 angular minute.
Capabilities
- Measuring and outputting angular orientation of the sight axis by relative bearing and elevation bearing relative to the basic axes of the ship’s hull.
- Range finding for observed objects;
- Automatic tracking with sight axis by relative.
- Automatic tracking of above – water and air mobile objects and keeping them on the sight axis.
- Bearing with different speeds.
- Pointing sight axis by external target assignment.
An image on the system monitor
Practically, an all – around field of view which the turret provides is added by a
system of digital filtration for the improvement of image quality in adverse
conditions (gauze, fog, precipitations, reduced light intensity, etc.). A TV –
camera of high resolution enables to detect small targets and recognize objects
details at long ranges. Sphere – 02 can be used both on Navy and civil ships as an
observation, detection and target designation system
System Functions
- Detection of above – water and shore objects in day – time and night – time conditions.
- Forming and outputting target assignment during operation in the sight.
- Supporting navigation and docking of ships in simple and difficult meteorological and navigational conditions, providing navigational and situational information for collision prevention
- Monitoring operation of on – deck machinery and devices.
- Supporting search and rescue operations, environment monitoring.
- Solving other special tasks – sea patrolling, mine detection, monitoring and reconnaissance, counter – terrorism and counter – piracy protection.
Equipment
The turret is air – tight so it can be used in a wide range of conditions. For critical applications, it can be equipped with special units keeping the required thermal regimes and ensuring reliable operation in the nor thern and humid climatic conditions. These units
prevent icing and decrease the warming – up time under sub – zero temperatures of the ambient air. Due to a user – friendly standard interface, the device is easily combined with
other systems (radars, weapon control systems, monitoring systems etc.).
Modification of Sphere – 02
In this modification, the turret has a visual channel that does not require power supply. This channel makes it possible to observe the environment when there is no power supply on the ship.
